On July 08, 2018 the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) granted a license for design and construction of Rooppur NPP power unit No 2 constructed under the Russian design to the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC).The document confirms the safety and gives a permission to commence the construction of the second power unit.JSC ASE Engineering Company as the General Contractor of NPP performs all obligations related to the construction of the Rooppur NPP. Currently, the construction of the first power unit is under way, and in July 2018  we plan to start pouring the first concrete into the slab of the reactor compartment of power unit No 2”,  -  Head of the Engineering Design of Rosatom State Corporation is pointed out Valery Limarenko.

The construction of Rooppur NPP Unit 1 started in November, 2017. Currently the works on construction of the walls of the reactor building,  reinforcement of the reactor building walls and the foundation slab of the auxiliary reactor building are being performed on the construction site, the soil stabilization works in the evaporative cooling tower, etc.  have been commenced.

For reference:

The Rooppur NPP construction is performed according to the Intergovernmental Russian-Bangladesh agreement on cooperation in the area of NPP construction on the territory of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh of November 2, 2011.The Russian Party has signed the contract with JSC  Atomstroyexport as a part of ASE Group of Companies representing the engineering division of Rosatom State Corporation.  December 25, 2015 is the date of signing of the General Contract for designing, construction and commissioning of 2 NPP power units based on 1200 Mwe VVER-reactors each on the Rooppur NPP site (160 km from Dhakka, the capital of Bangladesh, situated on the eastern bank of the river of Ganges)The selected design for Rooppur NPP is based on VVER-1200 reactors with the prototype at Novovoronezh NPP-2 (Russia). This is an evolutionary GenIII+ design which entirely meets all international safety requirements.
