On the 18th of September in Vienna at the 61st IAEA General Conference the IAEA and ROSATOM signed the Practical Arrangements (PAs) regarding the cooperation in rehabilitation of uranium legacy facilities in Central Asia.
For the Russian side the document was signed by Deputy Director General of ROSATOM Nikolai Spasskiy; for the IAEA it was signed by Juan Carlos Lentijo, the Deputy Director General of the IAEA and the Head of the IAEA Nuclear Safety and Security Department. The signing took place before the meeting of Director General of ROSATOM Alexei Likhachov and Director General of the IAEA Yukiya Amano.

The Practical Arrangements are aimed at increasing efficiency of the interaction between ROSATOM and the IAEA in rehabilitation of former uranium production facilities in the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. In particular, the document provides for joint review of engineering solutions used in rehabilitation of the uranium legacy facilities, review of research results and measures for planning future activities, as well as joint development of strategies of participation in multi-sided projects.
