PARIS, June 27, 2016 — State atomic energy corporation Rosatom together with the national agency for trade and investments Business France, held the workshop «Possible ways of Russian-French nuclear cooperation in the field of nuclear energy», dedicated to the discussion of possibilities for development and strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in nuclear energy and industry. Among the participants, on the French side, were France’s Special Representative for Relations with Russia Jean-Pierre Chevenement, CEO of the French Agency for Trade and Investments Business France Muriel Penicaud, Advisor on Atomic Energy at the French Embassy in Russia Alexander Gorbachev. On the Russian side — Director of the International Business Department of Rosatom Nikolay Drozdov, Trade Representative of Russia in France Alexander Turov, President of Rosatom — International Network Alexander Merten. More than 100 representatives from French companies and large industrial groups, that build and operate reactors, make machines, electrical equipment and safety systems, carry out scientific research, provide engineering services, decommission nuclear facilities, manage and dispose of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste, along with small and medium-sized businesses in nuclear energy and related industries took part in the workshop. Among them were managers of EDF, Areva, Bureau Veritas, Vallourec, Velan and others. Nikolay Drozdov, speaking at the opening ceremony, pointed out that «this is the third event of this type organized jointly with France». «We see considerable interest of French companies in cooperation in implementation of Rosatom projects abroad. Today a number of French companies have applied for certification as qualified suppliers of equipment and service for Hanhikivi nuclear power plant project. This year for the first time we are discussing not only possibilities for cooperation and participation of French companies in our projects of NPP construction (in Russia and in third countries), but also possibilities for Russian companies in implementation of joint projects in the field of service, modernization and lifetime extension of VVER NPP abroad, as well as NPP with PWR reactors in France. This could bring good opportunities for a number of divisions in the French market», he said. Jean-Pierre Chevenement in his welcome speech stressed that today relations between Russia and France in the field of nuclear energy, with more than 40 years history, are still strong. «Our workshop confirms this. We can be proud of the fact that today Russia and France are at the forefront of the development of nuclear technologies. We look at the international market of NPP construction as an opportunity for cooperation between our companies, including the areas of modernization, service and decommissioning», said Mr. Chevenement. Within 4 main sessions, representatives of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom and its divisions such as Rosatom — International Network, RAOS Project, Rusatom Service, AEM-Technology, NIAEP JSC, Rosenergoatom Concern JSC, Rusatom Energy International JSC presented opportunities for cooperation with French companies during the implementation of Rosatom projects abroad. Spokespersons told French companies, interested in developing partnership with Rosatom, about procurement system, requirements and standards for foreign suppliers. Participants of the workshop shared their experience with current Rosatom foreign partners, and discussed prospects of Russian-French nuclear cooperation in the field of service, modernization and lifetime extension of nuclear facilities. On May 31, 2016 in Moscow in a framework of 8-th International ATOMEXPO-2016 forum Rosatom and the French Engie signed a Memorandum of Understanding to reinforce the bilateral cooperation in the field of services and modernization of NPP with reactors of both Russian and non-Russian designs, in France, in Russia and in other parts of the world. Also, Rosatom and Schneider Electric signed a program for promotion of the equipment localized at ROSATOM’s subsidiaries for NPP construction projects abroad within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding of 19 June, 2015.
