Russia’s ROSATOM has signed separate agreements with Burundi, Zimbabwe Nicaragua and Belarus for the development of projects in the sphere of peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
The state nuclear power corporation first signed a roadmap with Burundi for establishing a dialogue in the area of peaceful uses of nuclear energy on the sidelines of the 2022 ATOMEXPO International Forum in Sochi, Russia.
The director general of ROSATOM, Alexey Likhachev, signed on behalf of ROSATOM while the Minister of Water Resources, Energy and Mines of the Republic of Burundi, Ibrahim Uwizeye, initialled for his country.
The roadmap defines concrete steps to be taken by both sides from 2022-2024 for the assessments of the prospects for nuclear generation in Burundi and the implementation of projects in the field of non-energy applications of nuclear energy in the African country.
The parties plan to organize technical tours and seminars, develop plans for education and personnel training, as well as joint activities for shaping public opinion in the field of nuclear energy.
ROSATOM also signed a memorandum of understanding with Zimbabwe to develop human resources for peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
The document was also signed by Alexey Likhachev, director general of ROSATOM, and Amon Murwira, Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development of Zimbabwe.
It is aimed at creating solid framework conditions for cooperation in this key area for the development of the Zimbabwean programme of peaceful uses of nuclear energy. In particular, specific steps are envisaged to train human resources for the Zimbabwean nuclear industry.
Meanwhile, ROSATOM has also initialled similar nuclear agreements with Belarus and Nicaragua.
