The 13th edition of Atomexpo 2024 has commenced in Sochi, Russia, with a number of African countries among the participants.
This international forum, supported by the Rosatom State Corporation, has brought together over 4 500 attendees from 75 countries.
The focus of this year’s event is on fourth-generation reactor technologies and Russia’s leading role in this domain. Key figures from public authorities, major global nuclear players, and renowned international experts are actively engaged.
During the opening ceremony, Alexey Likhachev, Rosatom’s director general, highlighted the forum’s carbon-free status, powered exclusively by green sources, and welcomed first-time participants from Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Iraq, underlining Africa’s significant potential in nuclear technology development.
The forum’s theme, ‘Clean Energy: Creating the Future Together’, resonates with Rafael Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, who views Atomexpo as a pivotal platform for discussing innovative power solutions and shaping the future of the nuclear energy sector.
Rosatom’s commitment to climate action is evident through measures such as compensating for the forum’s carbon footprint, with a history of over 500 partnership agreements valued at US$63 billion throughout its tenure.
